Get to know your fridge.

Front-opening fridge and pantry storage in a Go-Pod

Identify the fridge fitted to your Go-Pod before following advice about power, cooling or storage. Older and newer units do not all work the same way.

The model label comes first.

Go-Pods have used different refrigeration systems. The date of your caravan is a useful clue, but a previous owner may have changed the appliance. Read the label on the fridge and match the full model number to its manual.

Do not assume the 2015 blog’s advice about a portable three-way fridge applies to a later front-opening compressor fridge. The available CB40 and CRE manuals are also separate documents; choose by model, not appearance alone.

Two useful manual references.

Dometic CRE series

The CRE0050 / CRE0065 / CRE0080 manual covers compressor refrigerators. Use it for the controls, electrical supply, ventilation and storage instructions for those specific models.

Dometic CB40

A separate CB40 operating manual is available in the Go-Pod document archive. Use this only if the identification label on your fridge matches; it is not a substitute for the CRE instructions.

Plan for the way you travel.

  • Before departure: cool the fridge using an approved supply for that model, and load it with already-chilled food.
  • On the road: confirm how your installation is powered while towing. Do not assume a tow socket or the control panel powers every fridge in the same way.
  • Off hook-up: include the fridge in your battery-use plan. Running time depends on the appliance, temperature, battery condition and the rest of your electrical use.
  • In storage: empty, clean and switch off the fridge. Use the manufacturer’s ventilation/storage position to help prevent smells and mould.

If it is not cooling properly.

Start with the basic checks

Check the selected setting, power supply and ventilation against the manual. Make sure the door or lid closes properly and the vents are not obstructed. Note any error indication before switching things off.

When to stop and get help

If there is damage, a burning smell, repeated electrical tripping or an unresolved fault, stop using the appliance and ask a qualified technician or the manufacturer for advice. Do not bypass protective devices or modify the installation.

What about the old fridge article?

It remains in the archive as historical material. Its control-panel instructions and suggestions about gas operation or turning a unit upside down are not general instructions for the fridges now fitted to Go-Pods.
