A little guide to your camping toilet.

Portable camping toilet stored beneath the Go-Pod wardrobe

Where to keep it, how to plan your setup and what to check before using the portable toilet in your Go-Pod.

First, check your model.

Go-Pods have used different portable toilets over the years. The portable toilet is normally stored in the cupboard beneath the wardrobe. Both standard and taller models have been used. Your own toilet may differ, especially if a previous owner changed it.

Find its model label and keep the matching manufacturer’s instructions handy. Tank capacities, flush controls and preparation products vary; use the instructions for the toilet you actually have.

Choose a setup that works for you.

  • Inside the Go-Pod: slide the toilet out onto a stable surface and use the curtains and blinds for privacy. Keep the doorway clear.
  • In an awning: a separate area can keep the living space free while providing more room to move.
  • In a toilet tent: a purpose-made shelter offers another option where the campsite permits it.

Before buying a replacement, measure the cupboard opening as well as the space inside. Check height, width and depth, and whether you can comfortably lift the toilet out when it contains liquid.

A simple routine.

  1. Before useCheck the tanks, seals and catches. Prepare the toilet with the products and quantities specified in its manual.
  2. While you are awayKeep an eye on the waste level and arrange an emptying point before the tank becomes awkward to handle.
  3. After your tripEmpty at the campsite’s designated chemical-toilet disposal point, then clean and store the toilet as its manufacturer instructs.

Never empty toilet waste into a surface-water drain, the ground or a fresh-water point. Follow the campsite’s disposal instructions.

Questions before you pack.

Can I fit a taller toilet?

Possibly, but check the actual dimensions and access. The taller toilet shown in the old Go-Pod guide was an alternative model, not proof that every taller toilet fits every Go-Pod.

Which chemicals should I use?

Use products compatible with your toilet and permitted by the campsite. Follow their labels and the toilet manual; do not mix cleaning products.
